We Are Spiritual Beings Having a Human Experience (Book Snippet 34)

A few years ago I stumbled across this famous quote by the French priest and philosopher Pierre Teilhard de Chardin. Put in my own words, I would say we are an immaterial energy, which temporarily materialized in a physical form.

Now, I am not religious. I personally don’t happen to believe there is a God who overlooks and guides my every step. But even as an atheist, I believe in the existence of something intangible connecting me not only to my fellow human beings but to all of nature. The intangible spiritual connection I sensed was strong enough to make me want to explore what it means to be ‘a spiritual being having a human experience’. I became less invested in fixing myself, and more interested in understanding the link between reality, spirituality, and happiness. The more I began to understand, the simpler the solution to my suffering appeared.

What if as a spiritual being I wasn’t broken and therefore didn’t need to be fixed? What if the key to my well-being and happiness is purely to know where my feelings come from? What if I needed to look inside — but not muddle with my inside?
